Focus Enhancements To Debut First Multi-Channel High Fidelity Wireless Surround With Easy Setup At CES 09
Focus Enhancements, Inc., a leader in wireless audio technologies, will demonstrate new, groundbreaking Summit technology for wireless home theater and gaming platforms at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV, January 8 – 11, at the Venetian Hotel, Suite #31-223.
At CES, the wireless surround demonstration will be driven by a Pioneer(R) Blu-ray player and Sherwood(R) audio/video receiver with an embedded Summit master module transmitting to speakers with embedded Summit slave modules and class D amplifiers. Speakers from NHT(R), JBL, Inc.(R), and Boston Acoustics(R) incorporating the Summit technology will also be on display.
As originally previewed last month in New York City, the company’s Summit (a.k.a. FS848) chip allows for the transmission of 24 bit DVD-quality audio wirelessly to speakers for home theater and PS3 gaming platforms that are scalable to a 7.1 configuration. In addition, Summit’s SpeakerFinderTM technology, detects a speaker’s location at power-up allowing for the correct assignment of each audio channel automatically while MyZoneTM technology can optimize the sound to a specific listening location in less than a second.
“At Focus Enhancements we concentrated our efforts on three key issues facing wired and wireless home theater systems today — ease of set-up, signal reliability and system fidelity,” said Tony Parker, vice president of marketing for Focus Enhancements’ semiconductor group. “Our goal for Summit was to enable consumers to set up and optimize their home theater audio in less than 30 minutes while providing a robust wireless link that meets or exceeds wired performance and fidelity.”
“NHT has been evaluating wireless speaker technologies for some time. Summit measured up to our performance expectations and we believe shows real promise for success in the CE market,” said Chris Byrne, Co-Owner and Co-Founder, NHT. “NHT delivers a quality product offering true high-fidelity at a reasonable price point. Similarly, Summit’s wireless technology delivers as promised, while SpeakerFinder and MyZone technologies add real value by simplifying the audio setup process.”
“We are very impressed with the Summit wireless solution,” said Eli D Harary, Senior Vice President, General Manager, Boston Acoustics. “We are looking forward to the feedback and reactions of dealers to the possibility of a future Boston product incorporating Focus Enhancements unique wireless technology.”
“Summit enables listeners to enjoy all the sonic benefits our loudspeakers deliver, while providing a useful and convenient installation solution,” noted Tim LeBeau, Vice President Global Brands, Harman Consumer Brands.
Headquartered in Campbell, CA, Focus Enhancements has additional sales and support offices in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. Customers may also work directly with design partners such as Momentum Data Systems (MDS), which offers turnkey system design and engineering support for wireless home theater products, and module partners including Kwang Sung, located in South Korea. Both companies will have products on display in the Focus Enhancements suite at CES.
